What if I could have it all?
What if you could have it all?
What if we could have it all?
I want to have it all
I want security
A place of my own
To be cushioned from life’s uncertainties
But I want freedom too
To travel the world
To live on a whim
To pick a random interest
And lose myself in it
I want to wake up before everyone else
To serious business
Nation building business
Then sit on grass
By a stream
Doing nothing
At noon
I don’t want to compromise today
For an unpromised tomorrow
I don’t want to dampen my youth
To secure my old age
No
I want to live out my youth
And still thrive in old age
Who said the universe was on a budget?
Why do we limit our dreams?
What if we could have it all?
What if you could have fun
And still be a good parent?
Why do we resign
To live a slow death
To secure a future
We never get to enjoy
What if we could have it all?
What if we did not give up today’s joy?
What if we stood up to God
And refused to settle for less
And instead, asked for everything we desire
Who died and made desire a crime?
Who said that wanting it all was gluttonous?
Greedy
Unreasonable
Unrealistic
Delusional
What if we could have it all?
Where might our ‘delusion’ take us?
Who could we be
If we never lost our sense of wonder
